Congratulations to Corinth Varsity Coach Craig Falkenbury who was named Positive Athletes 2018-19 Most Positive Boys Coach in New York on Monday, June 24.
Positive Athletes is a state-wide organization focused on highlighting student athletes, as well as coaches, who are making a positive contribution to their communities, like Corinth’s very own Falkenbury.
“First of all, I am so humbled and truly honored to receive this award,” said Falkenbury on receiving the recognition.
Softball, football, baseball, and basketball are just some of the sports among the many coaching accolades Falkenbury has in the district, where he has coached for over 26 years.
Corinth Athletic Director Hillary Haskell, who nominated Falkenbury for the award, states Falkenbury has an infectious energy that resonates with all of the students he coaches.
“His positive reinforcement helps our student athletes to improve themselves and be the best they can be,” said Haskell. “That’s all you could ask for in a coach.”
Falkenbury believes helping students learn life skills through the sports they play is one of the best things about coaching.
“There is nothing more rewarding as a coach to see the kids you work with be successful in their lives,” said Falkenbury.
On top of being recognized state-wide, Falkenbury will attend a special ceremony with all of the Positive Athletes winners for this year's program at the July 26 New York Mets game. The awardees will all be recognized on the field at Citi Field.
“I am extremely grateful to be selected for this award,” said Falkenbury. “I owe this award to so many people who made me the man and coach I am today.”
"No one deserves this honor more than Craig,” said Corinth Superintendent Mark Stratton. “He exemplifies what you want in an educator. He has a heart of gold and goes above and beyond every day to help our students."
