The “Building our Future. Restoring our Past.” tagline was aptly created by the District’s Digital Marketing Class in the High School. Students designed marketing materials to promote this project by collecting information and researching the wants and needs of the district. They did such a wonderful job that we decided to use their talents in promoting this upcoming project. Not only do these students now have real-life marketing experience but they have experience promoting a project that will impact their own community directly.

NEWS: Voters approve $12 million Corinth school capital project
The Corinth Central School District voted on a Capital Improvement Project that thoughtfully addresses the needs and priorities of our school community. On Tuesday, February 9, 2021, residents of the Corinth School District approved an $11.9 million Capital Improvement Project to improve district facilities and address safety concerns.
Each component of this Capital Improvement Project is centered around one goal: “Building our Future. Restoring our Past.” The District intends to update infrastructure to be safe and to provide an optimal educational environment for our students. “We are excited to present this project to our community as it aligns with our mission of meeting the needs of our school community,” said Superintendent Dr. Mark Stratton. “The current pandemic has impacted all of us, but we remain dedicated to our responsibility in preparing our students for the future and ensuring that our school district continues to grow.”
The Corinth Central School District is much more than an educational institution. We are committed to supporting the Corinth community and we strive for strong community partnerships and engagement. Our stakeholders have been an integral part of the planning process for this proposed project. The District’s Facilities Committee met with several stakeholder groups including parents, students, and community members, to obtain their input on the scope of this project. The committee worked with BCA Architects to design a plan that addresses our most pressing safety and educational needs.
The proposed project is based on the District’s Building Conditions Survey, which is required by NYSED to be completed every 5 years, and consists of interior and exterior building work. It includes modernizing outdated and damaged science laboratories in the High School and Middle School, reorienting and enlarging the High School auditorium to accommodate community needs and meet ADA compliance. It also includes redesigning multiple High School entry points, which will provide a safer, more secure, ADA compliant entrance. Additional project scope items are included on the following pages.
Why consider a Capital Improvement Project right now?
Undertaking Capital Improvement Projects on a regular basis helps districts maintain a stable tax levy for residents while keeping buildings and grounds in working condition. Currently, the District is nearing the completion of payments from our previous Capital Project. We are introducing a new project to maintain a predictable tax levy for our community.
Completing this work through a Capital Project also allows the District to take advantage of NYS Building Aid (covering nearly 80% of the project costs) and maintain a consistent source of revenue for future years.
Timing is Everything
The loans from our previous Capital Improvement Project are soon to be paid in full. By incurring new payments with this proposed project, we can ensure our tax levy remains consistent like it has in the past several years. If approved by residents, the Capital Improvement Project is expected to carry a minimal tax increase.
How is the project funded?
The project will be funded through the use of New York State Building Aid, Capital Reserves, and local net share. Approximately $9.4 million of the total costs will be funded through State Aid and $650,000 will be funded through Capital Reserves. This leaves $1.9 million for the local net share of the project. The District’s financial advisors anticipate homes appraised at a full value of $100,000 will see a potential increase of $12.42 per year based on Basic Star exemption or a $5.20 per year increase based on Enhance Star exemption.
