The Corinth Young Scholars class, comprised of third and fourth-grade students, recently completed the City By Design program, where they explored the inner workings of cities and the forces that shape them. This engaging program introduced students to the people and processes behind community planning, land use, and sustainability.
Throughout the program, students gained valuable knowledge about zoning districts and the essential functions required to create a sustainable community. They worked collaboratively on a culminating project to design and build their own city, using only recyclable materials. Their creation, aptly named "Bright Star City" after the North Star, featured detailed zoning districts, complete with buildings, parks, and roads.
The project encouraged creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking, providing students with lifelong skills and a deeper appreciation for city planning. The pride and teamwork exhibited by the Young Scholars in building Bright Star City highlight the program’s success in inspiring the next generation of community leaders.
