On Tuesday May 14th, CCSD had the privilege of sending 14 female 8th grade students to SUNY Adirondack for the Let’s Go STEM program.
The Adirondack Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) organized engaging and exciting hands-on activities, where our students could learn about career opportunities in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math fields! Thank you to AAUW and SUNY ADK for such an amazing opportunity! Congratulations to the following students for being selected to attend: Bailey Daniels, Makenna Eastman, Cinthia Elvira, Morgan Fish, Jullianna French, Emma Havens, Sophia Hogan, Sydnee Mosher, Maddison Nelson, Angelica Nicholas, Heather Pita, Callie Rigley, Sage Shanahan, and Lucy Swinton.

This week, our school community is focusing on the character strength of Humor. Humor means you like to laugh and bring smiles to other people.
Humor is a sense of playfulness and lightness. It is a way of looking at and describing the world that brings people laughter. A person with a strong sense of humor is skilled at seeing the funny side of things, bringing smiles and laughter to others, and identifying and communicating the absurdities in life. People with this strength don’t specifically need to be joke-tellers, although many are.
Humor plays an important role in helping groups of people rise above difficult circumstances and boost morale. It removes us from our present difficulties by easing tension and making life more fun. This is why athletic teams often need a jokester to help them get through tough losses and early morning fitness sessions. On a larger societal level, humor often helps downtrodden groups to find cohesion and strength. This is why Simon Wiesenthal said, “Humor is the weapon of unarmed people: it helps people who are oppressed smile at the situation that pains them.”

A big shout out to the students in Mrs. Fay's Sports Marketing Class and Mrs. Graham's Foods Class for a successful interdisciplinary unit with real world applications!
Six teams of students in the Sports Marketing Class were charged with the task of creating a new energy bar product for a leading foods company. Each team developed the marketing mix depicting their product. The Foods Class was given the ingredients and vision for what each team wanted and created each team's bar.
Students from the Achievement Zone were invited to judge the competition by tasting the finished energy bars and asking questions during the presentations. What a great real-world business venture experience for our students!! We have some future entrepreneurs in our high school ready to take on the business world!

Our district formally recognized our Adirondack United Girls Hockey state champions this week. Congratulations to Aubrey Lozier, Jessica Freebern and Coach Lawrence!
Congratulations to all of our performers at the CMS Grades 7-8 Concert last Thursday! It was the first concert to be held in our new auditorium!
Guests were treated to the talented hand bells ensemble, choir and 7-8 band! We are so proud of our middle school musicians!

Our Boys Varsity Baseball team will head to Coxsackie-Athens on Thursday for the first sectional game at 4PM! We wish our Riverhawks much success in the post-season!

The JV softball earned the "W" to close out last week. Coach Parker shared game highlights:
"The JV softball team won against Whitehall on Friday by a score of 24-4. The team was led by Raegan Hickey who pitched a great game only letting up five hits. Jess Freebern had 3 hits including two doubles and five RBIs. Jullianna French, Brooke Curry, and Megan Smolinski all added doubles as well. The entire lineup helped contribute to a big win."

Closing out our week on leadership in our Positivity Project SEL curriculum, we want to give a shout out to our CHS Student Senate! Students are elected by their peers and meet monthly. They have accomplished so much this school year.
Student Senate members serve on the CCSD Shared Decision Making Team and the Board of Education, representing the student body.
They meet monthly to discuss and plan how to improve the school and community. This year, CHS Student Senate were in charge of the vending machines in the Oak Street building. They are allocating the profits to school improvements! They are making improvements to our school courtyard and are also donating to Corinth's Agriculture Club to help defray the cost of their projects.
In an endeavor to be more inclusive to all students, the Student Senate helped to launch a CHS Book Club open to all students. This initiative supports our district literacy goal and has had much interest and engagement from students!
We are so proud of the CHS Student Senate, true role models and leaders in our school community!

Kirana Ellis had a great out at 2nd base. Jennifer Ives was quick to throw at third base to Samantha Phillips to keep the runner on. Our catchers Annabell and Darrian were throwing down to first. Everyone had great hits and beautiful RBI’s. Every player had a great game. I am so proud of how well this team works together. Congratulations Riverhawks!! Keep it up." The CHS chapter of the National Honor Society has truly modeled leadership and service to our school and community with a variety of projects! In addition to facilitating a very successful Red Cross Bloodmobile (exceeding their goal of pints of blood), individual members coordinated their own service projects to give back to the school and community. Some of the projects benefitted: The American Legion, Saratoga County Animal Shelter, the C.A.R.E. Committee, the Community Food Pantry, Code Blue Shelter, Gateway Oasis Youth Camp, Veteran and Community Housing Coalition, Alliance 180 (Horse Adoption program), Corinth Elementary School, Corinth Music Program, Adirondack Center Stage, Toys for Tots and many other worthy causes/organizations.
We are so proud of our students for modeling our Positivity Project mantra: Other People Matter! A shout out to all of the NHS students and our community members who supported their efforts.

The CARE Committee wants to share an extra shout out of appreciation to the Food For Thought / O'Brien's Angels program who gifted us Walmart gift cards to shop for snacks for students. Our high school Job Skills class ordered and then packed up Snack Goodie bags to pass along to teachers to share with their students in the final couple months of the school year.

Our 7th grade Social Studies students are studying Westward Expansion as part of their American History curriculum. Students asked their teacher, Mr. Vila, if they could recreate some of the photos from the time period. They were very engaged and motivated during this unit!
Congratulations to the 4th and 8th grade students who were selected as recipients of the Sandra G. Morley Physical Education Leadership Award. Students were selected by the physical education teachers for demonstrating skills in class and in school that made them stand out. The award recipients:

Our 1st graders had a ball on their visit to the Saratoga Corinth and Hudson Railway last week too! They were excited to have lunch at the train depot and see our region. The engineer was very kind to our young Riverhawks! Thank you to the amazing railway staff!

While maintaining their high academic standards, they committed to personal service projects as well as chapter service to our school and community. NJHS held a food drive for the community and school food pantries, served as guides for open house, served and cleaned up for the Senior Dinner and a Show and many other projects that modeled their understanding of our P2 core pillar: Other People Matter!
