For Earth Day, Sixth graders spent class time learning about the history of Earth Day and the actions we can all do to help our planet. Students then went outside and enjoyed the sunshine while collaborating with classmates on their observations of the natural environment. They recorded their findings for a scavenger hunt of what they see as things that impact the environment in positive and negative ways. Thank you to grade 6 science teacher, Mrs. LeFebre, for supporting our Positivity Project Social Emotional Learning curriculum. This week's character strength is: Appreciating Beauty and Excellence!

The Girls Varsity Riverhawks earned another win last night. Coach Bruno shared game highlights:
"The Lady Riverhawk had another come from behind win beating Fort Ann 4-3. With Fort Ann up 3-0 in the fifth the team answered with some small ball. Aubrey Lozier walked, Kenadee Flint singled and then Piper Houser hit a sac fly to give us our first run. Then Isabelle Cook had a sacrifice to score Kenadee Flint to bring us to only down 1 run. After some great defense and pitching we were down 1 run in the bottom of the seventh. Aubrey Lozier and Kenadee Flint had back to back singled then advanced to 2nd and 3rd on a wild pitch. Then with one out Belle Cook once again put the ball in play to score Aubrey Lozier and Kenadee Flint scored on the overthrow giving us the 4-3 win.
It was an exciting game where we played solid defense and Teagan Grady gave up only 5 hits, striking out 8. What an exciting win for the team that never gave up and stayed positive throughout. They had great at bats, covered each other in the field and came up clutch when we needed it! Great job ladies! We are now 3-2 in league play!"
Congratulations, ladies! Keep it going!

Our 7th grader participated in a great experience today, supporting our Positivity Project character strength: Appreciating Beauty and Excellence in honor of Earth Day 2024! From the Saratoga County Facebook page:

"Today, 7th graders from Corinth Central School District joined forces with Saratoga County to stock fish at the Corinth Reservoir Property. Joined by Supervisor Butler of the Town of Corinth, New York, the students eagerly stocked the reservoir with Brook Trout. This experience not only provided a valuable learning experience but also contributed to conservation efforts. The Saratoga County Fish Stocking program combines educational opportunities for students on the importance of preserving fish populations in addition to providing recreational opportunities for anglers. Thank you to the Saratoga County Board of Supervisors for supporting this program and to the students for participating."

Great job, 7th grade!!! #CorinthisCommunity (More photos on Facebook)

Dear CCSD Families:

This week our school community will be focusing on the character strength of Appreciation of Beauty and Excellence (JUST IN TIME FOR EARTH DAY!). Appreciation of beauty and excellence means you notice and value the world’s beauty and people’s skills. You don’t take things for granted.

Appreciation of Beauty and Excellence is the ability to identify and enjoy that which is admirable in the world. There are three types of goodness in which positive psychology focuses: physical beauty (e.g. a sunset, a song, or building); an exceptional skill or talent; and moral goodness (e.g. a character strength). Appreciation of beauty can generate awe; appreciation of a skill can generate admiration; and appreciation of moral goodness can generate moral elevation. All of these feelings (awe, admiration, and moral elevation) help us forget ourselves and find increased joy and meaning in the world.

Appreciating excellence and beauty helps an individual experience positive emotions and connect to the world around them. It’s an outward facing strength, meaning the individual is focused on the world outside their head. And, not only is the individual outwardly focused, but often deeply absorbed in a sense of awe or admiration, freeing them to forget anxieties and troubles. And it is associated with other strengths, such as gratitude, curiosity, love of learning, and purpose.

To practice and encourage the character strength of Appreciation of Beauty and Excellence with your child, please visit the Positivity Project’s P2 for Families (password: P2) where together you can watch a video, read a quote and talk about the answers to three questions.

Have a wonderful week and HAPPY EARTH DAY!

Coach Bowe shared highlights of game 2 of yesterday's double header:

"The boys varsity earned another win on Saturday to finish the double header 2 and 0. The boys beat Mayfield 10-9. Kaden Wright and Sam Tangora both had 2 hits. Kaden had a triple and scored on a throwing error. Ethan Williams, Josh Colson, and Sam Tangora were great on the mound. We drew 8 walks and had 7 stolen bases.

The coaches are very happy with the team's effort throughout both games. They battled each and every inning to win both games. It’s great to see all their hard work payoff."

Congratulations, gentlemen! (more photos on Facebook)
