Dear CCSD Families,

This week our school community will be focusing on the character strength of Perspective. Perspective means you appreciate when people see things in different ways. You have the ability to understand the world from multiple points of view.

Perspective is also referred to as wisdom and is distinct from intelligence. People with this strength are sought out for advice because they see the big picture and can make sense of the world’s complexity. This strength of perspective gives individuals the ability to see to the heart of difficult matters and achieve clarity. Most importantly, they are honest and behave in an ethically consistent manner.

Perspective helps an individual make sense of the world. It provides clarity on what matters and what does not. Being able to see things from multiple angles helps individuals remain calm and learn from mistakes; they are typically highly self-aware. Reflecting on their own feelings, thoughts, and motives helps them understand and empathize with other people. These individuals are strong listeners and ask great questions. Individuals with the strength of perspective help their group get through difficult or uncertain circumstances because they’re poised and can identify opportunities for success.

To practice and encourage the character strength of perspective with your child, please visit the Positivity Project’s P2 for Families (password: P2), where together you can watch a video, read a quote, and talk about the answers to three questions.

ATTENTION CHS students in 11th grade (and their families): We invite our Junior families to attend the Community Information Night on Wednesday, March 20th at 6PM in the Oak Street library. We will be sharing information on both the College Admissions and Financial Aid process, including information about the college search process, admissions testing programs, NCAA guidelines for athletic eligibility, the process of applying for financial aid, and services for students with disabilities. We will be joined by representatives from the Admissions Office at Fulton Montgomery Community College and Skidmore College, as well as SUNY Adirondack’s Financial Aid Office. Students are also encouraged to attend. We hope to see you there.

A big shout out to the CHS Counseling Team for facilitating a trip to the college fair held at SUNY Adirondack this week for students who are exploring higher education as part of their post graduation goals! Our students asked great questions and researched their interests!

Our CMS PBIS team hosted the final Fun Night of the year! The theme was READY-SET-GLOW! Students danced, lip synced, played in the air band, board games and gym games! Thanks to the 17 staff members who volunteered along with Mr. Testani, Mrs. Lawrence and Deputy Monge! Thank you to our custodial staff for helping to set up and break down quickly to prepare for Friday's staff development day. Thanks to senior, DJ Duncan, for always bringing life to the party! CES celebrated the halfway point for our Read for Ronald McDonald House today with "Dress Like Your Favorite Character from a Book" Day! Our students really got into the spirit today! #CESrocksreading A big shout out to the CES staff for promoting a love of literacy!

Mrs. Needham's class reached their goal of earning 750 Riverbucks as a class and earned the privilege to work in their pillow/blanket forts! Students were excited to complete assignments and read in their classroom forts for a day. Way to go, Riverhawks!! Keep up the good work!

A big shout out to a few more 2 season varsity athletes who were congratulated and given some Riverhawks swag! Congratulations on successful fall and winter seasons! We will have another round of 2+ varsity season athletes during the spring! Go, Riverhawks!

Congratulations, seniors!

Tomorrow is WORLD TRAVELER WEDNESDAY in the Oak St. and Center St. cafeterias! This month, we travel to Ireland for our international cuisine. Check out a few fun facts about Ireland from National Geographic Kids: https://www.natgeokids.com/uk/discover/geography/countries/facts-about-ireland/ Please encourage our students to try our Irish meal! (Alternative options are available, as always.) World Traveler Wednesdays is another way to expose our students to different countries and cultures of the world. Thank you to Mrs. Tevendale and the cafeteria staff for their collaboration with our Diversity Coordinators for this initiative!

Our Unified Bowling Team was presented with their Section II shirts today to honor their recent 3rd place finish in the Section II tournament! They were recognized by Dr. Stratton, Mr. Schenone and Coach Haskell! Congratulations, Riverhawks!

A big shout out to Caitlyn Crossman for raising $400 for the CHS National Honor Society with coordinating the Staff Volleyball Game as her service project! Thank you to all of the CCSD staff members who participated and all of the Riverhawks fans for cheering them on!

Today, our student athletes who played 2 varsity sports this year (fall and winter) were recognized! Our students were given some Riverhawks swag by our Athletic Director, Coach Haskell, and congratulated by Dr. Stratton and Mr. Schenone! Way to go, Riverhawks!

The C.A.R.E. Committee would like to give a big shout out to AMORE PIZZA for their recent generosity. The pizza kit event raised over $1100 for the C.A.R.E. Committee to help students in need in our community. Thanks to all who purchased as well! #CorinthisCommunity

CCSD would like to recognize our 4 seniors in the CHS Drama Club: MJ Sprague, Duncan Peterson, Reef Bishop and TJ Welch! Read about their drama club accomplishments as shared in the program this weekend. Thank you for your contributions and we wish you much success in the future!

Congratulations to the cast and crew of The Play That Goes Wrong! They performed 3 shows, evoking much laughter from every audience. Thank you to all who came out to support our talented students!

Congratulations to senior, Isaiah Burth, who was recognized last weekend at the National Football Foundation Scholar dinner for his academic and athletic efforts over 4 years at CHS. Isaiah was selected as a student who excelled on the football field and in the classroom. Recipients are posted in the college football hall of fame for 1 year. We are proud of you, Isaiah, and wish you the best in your future endeavors.

In the spirit of our Positivity Project "Identifying and Appreciating the Good in Others" curriculum this week, we would like to recognize our CCSD Social Workers, Mrs. Giumarra and Ms. Tilden. National School Social Worker Week wrapped up this weekend! Thank you for all that you do!

Congratulations to Keegan Baker and Aiden Schurr for being named First Team All-Stars for the Adirondack League 2023-24 Wrestling season! Way to go, Riverhawks!

A big thank you to Maddy and SouthPaw of the Tri-City Valley Cats for coming to read to our CES students last week! Our students were very excited to have SouthPaw in the house! CES is really rocking the special events to promote literacy!
